We were so excited to go to couples conference. It is held at the Mission Home in Stockholm. We flew there with the Rasmussens who are the Sr. Couple who are serving in Halmstad about 2 hours north of us. They will be there until they can find them an apartment in Jönköping, where they will be over the YSA Center there. Here we are at the Stockholm airport. It is a beautiful airport. They have lots of displays hanging from the ceiling. We are standing by one of the huge decorated Christmas Trees.
Our ride in the van also included the Andersons serving at the YSA Center in Gothenburg 3 hours north of us and our driver Brother Lundquist who with his wife are the office couple in Stockholm. Well the drive was just beautiful just so many snowy trees and a winter wonderland. He got lost and none of us could help as we live far from Stockholm, but we all had fun teasing him and seeing the scenery. We finally made it and were received with a warm welcome from our Mission Pres.
I am with Brother and Sister Herrey. Sister Herrey is so sweet, she reminded me of my mom, both in looks and personality. They are both in their 80s. They are the Sr. couple on Gotland Island. I found out later that they are very famous in Sweden and all over Europe. They have a large family. Three of their sons can really sing. When they where young kids they loved singing and became like the Osmond Brothers in America. They toured all over Europe and some in the States. One of their sons is the CES director for Sweden. We know him well his name is Louie Herrey he works with us in our Institute center. You can go to You Tube and type in Herreys and their theme song Diggiloo Diggiley of 1984 will come up along with lots of others songs. Louie Herrey is the one on the left in the darker blue shirt. Of course he is older now with a nice family of his own. But it is fun to learn about the people we work with.
During the conference each couple had their pictures taken and then a group photo. So here we are and the other photo is of the Rasmussens.
Sister Anderson had this really cool center piece she wanted to show us. She had a mold of a crown, she hung berries and ferns from the top of it and then filled it with water and put it in the freezer when it was frozen she tipped it over and out popped this crown that was so pretty. As the evening wore on the crown melted but we really enjoyed it. What a fun center piece.
There were several projects going on during the evening. One was decorating Ginger Bread houses. This is Neal’s he was quite proud of it.
I was over a huge project of putting together bags for ALL the Missionaries in Sweden (84) I had a set up down stairs in the Bunk House; this is a room with 20 beds. They use it when they have the young missionaries come for training and can put them all down stairs. Boy do they have fun!! Well she had boxes of things to go in the bags like toiletries, all types of food, candy, pens etc. My job was to put some things in the blue bag for the Sr missionary and some in the yellow bags for the Jr missionary. The trick was that between the 2 bags they would come out with things they could both use; like one got spaghetti and the other got the sauce. They all got the candy, pens and toiletries. It was quite an operation. Some of the other women came down and helped along with Neal.
This was the dining room table set with her good stuff. The whole home is beautiful and huge.
You can tell by this photo that we all had a great time. Here is Brother Lundquist at the piano with Neal and Bro. Rasmussen and then Bro. Herrey singing Christmas songs around the piano. The light wasn’t the greatest so Bro. Herrey grabbed the candles from the window so he could see!!
We sure are serving with great people who love the gospel and enjoy having fun together.
